Sustainable by design while at inbuilt
Client: Richard Minshell Developments
This Zero Carbon House to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 is designed also to meet German Passivhaus standards by using the highest envelope insulation products, optimising solar gains from South facing facade, and includes a whole house ventilation strategy with heat recovery which means the house is designed to near-zero heating requirements. The whole of the South facing roof pitch was designed to feature solar photovoltaic slates and the roof also includes solar thermal panels and a chimney for a wood pellet stove for extreme winter temperatures.
The house is designed as a Passivhaus demonstration for a house in multiple occupation, which can be used as a generous single family house with open-plan kitchen and dining area facing the garden and open views. It is designed to meet the strict requirements for a village conservation area and remains sympathetic to the local materials language and street facades.
