Isle of Man Passivhaus

Sustainable By Design

Client: Client: Wolf Environmental (IOM) Ltd

This design for a large family house with annex in a semi-rural location on the Isle of Man is intended to be used as a template for further development on the Island, incorporating a number of innovative low-energy design features and proprietary products. The houses feature South facing aspect to all principal rooms, and upstairs balconies for the enjoyment of open views over fields, whilst preserving privacy in each zone by working with the natural gradient on the site. The high performance building envelope uses a familiar palette of local materials, designed using PHPP to meet the Passivhaus standard, whilst satisfying planners' requirements for a contextual approach to the appearance of the buildings. The 2 houses are linked together to allow future flexibility of assisted living for both younger and older members of the family.

Status: Achieved planning June 2011, on-going
